Description
8 (2011) for organ (PDF)
Duration: c. 4 minutes
8 – for solo organ – is my first true serialist piece, using an 8-tone row. I spelled Brent te Velde’s name using a combination of letters and solfeg, and he gave the premiere performance on Trinity University’s Hofmann/Ballard/Kegg organ. The work builds gradually from a collection of very tight and high intervals into a more expanded register, all in a meditative manner. Then a melody emerges out of the texture and grows… Perhaps it ends with a musical question mark.
Registrations are left to the choice of the performer.
