Premiere recording of Rhapsody by Caterina Bevegni, harp, and Matteo Costanzi, oboe at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Den Haag CASS concert on February 11, 2014.
Rhapsody, composed for my friend Teil Buck, oboe, explores an intimate conversation
between the two players. I wanted this piece to have a free and fluid feel, so I wrote many phrases without meter, and then added in appropriate barlines for ensemble playing. For the harp pedaling I exploited the harp’s capacity for enharmonic tunings to create opportunity for repeated notes and specific pitch collections.
Special thanks to Charles W. Lynch, III for editing the harp part.
