Program Note
Frolic, for solo marimba, captures the many playful moods of this beautiful instrument. Mischievous, lyrical and sustained passages showcase the variety of expression that can be produced on the marimba. I wrote this piece for my friend Kelly Merka Nelson in a Czech palace in Prague in the summer of 2009 while studying at the Czech-American Summer Music Institute with Ladislav Kubik.
